Ne · Extraverted Intuition
When I see a concept, I immediately think of what else it can be combined with.
The very process of speaking or experimenting can generate new ideas.
It is easier to be attracted to unexplored possibilities than to settle on a single answer.
Ne ≠
- Does not equal attention deficit or inability to get things done.
- Does not mean that all ideas are feasible.
- Does not equal extroverted social ability.
- It does not mean that the more ideas you have, the smarter you will be.
Ne tends to expand a few clues into many possibilities; Ni tends to gather many clues into a smaller number of directions.

Dominant
Often scans naturally for changes, opportunities, and alternative explanations.
Auxiliary
Opens more paths through which internal logic or values can be explored.
Tertiary
Provides new approaches and openness, but sometimes only explores within safe boundaries.
Inferior
Under pressure, one may be overwhelmed by a flood of worst-case scenarios, or may suddenly negate existing stability.
Ne · Across different types
For an ENTP, Ne is often calibrated by Ti, so new ideas are tested against logical challenges.
For an ENFP, Ne is often calibrated by Fi, so new possibilities are filtered through personal values.
Interpersonal Challenges
- Continually reopening options may prevent any one direction from receiving enough investment.
- Mistake novelty for importance.
When out of balance, it may jump between a large number of possibilities. The more you want to find an exit, the harder it is to commit to action.
Growth Suggestions
- Choose one small experiment after each round of idea generation.
- Record ideas for later instead of trying to execute all of them at once.
- Distinguish among "interesting," "important," and "possible now."
